artedi app

We designed an app to teach Caribbean fish identification while snorkeling or diving underwater.

Fish identification is a skill that requires years of practice and a lot of time spent in the field. However, this app will help you bridge the gap between what you see in the books and what you actually experience underwater.

Artedi teaches you to recognize the most common Caribbean reef fish, while allowing you to record fish diversity and abundance through simple touchscreen commands.

The Story of Artedi

Using a scientific crowdfunding platform, Isla Mar founders raised funds to support initial development.

Crowdfunded

Designed and implemented by creators and coders just beginning in their careers.

Early-Career Professionals

Effectiveness of the app was tested in a rigorous experiment involving novice fish surveyors.

Tried and Tested

Education is expensive enough.

This app is free to use.

Freely Available

Future of Artedi

Since its conceptualization in 2012, we've been seeking the perfect affordable tablet housing to take it underwater. While some tablet housings have come close, none have met our exact needs.

We're actively seeking prototype solutions and welcome your input. Engineers, designers, and tech moguls, help us make Artedi underwater-ready in an affordable and practical way.

Let's collaborate on this exciting challenge!
